For most musicians in the program, you will play the same instrument for concert band as for marching band. If you are an oboist or bassoonist (double reed), you have the option to choose learning a percussion instrument and performing in the Front Ensemble or learning alto saxophone. If you choose the Front Ensemble route, your band fees and instrument rental fee cover the cost of using the school’s percussion equipment. The program is unable to provide any saxophones to double reed performers who decide they want to play saxophone, thus you would be responsible for rental or purchase of a saxophone for marching season. If you are a school-owned instrument performer other than oboe or bassoon (bass clarinet, tenor/bari saxophone, french horn, bass trombone, euphonium, or tuba), you will be provided an additional “marching instrument” (marching bass clarinet, tenor/bari saxophone, mellophone, baritone, or sousaphone) at no extra cost to you.
